HBS is releasing a Request for Information (RFI) to explore potential opportunities to improve, enhance and expand the existing bike share system. This RFI concerns bike share amenities and services, including equipment, technologies and software; as well as bike share best practices, recommendations, research, opinions and knowledge. Information from respondents will be evaluated and will guide potential pilot programs, which will be proposed to and implemented with the City of Houston. Information may be used to create a framework for a city-wide model.
The pace and volume of bike share technology, products and services from the private sector is rapidly accelerating and abundant. HBS has heard public and stakeholder concerns about the introduction of free floating bike share systems, also known as stationless or dockless. Specifically, concerns have been raised regarding obstruction of right-of-way, low investment in quality and reliability, and consumer confusion.
